Dark water

I've always found Asian horror the most unsettling, both in its imagery and its psychological terror – something Dark Water leans on heavily.

Hideo Nakata shows that the things you don't see, can sometimes be the most haunting. The movie has some of the most impressive use of suspense I've seen; up there with the likes of Jaws. It takes necessary time to build on your fear without ever really giving you anything to be fearful of which makes the occasional scare so much more impactful.

While the movie's small in scale, its psychological depth is vast and it leaves the horror to linger with you long after the credits roll, which is when I really started to feel its weight.
